FPL territory
The utility will install a charger. Sometimes you should let them.
FPL EVolution Home is a real program. It is not a rumor. It also is not the same job as owning your own Level 2 circuit. Here is the split.
If you are on Florida Power & Light, they will put a Level 2 charger in your garage, pull the permit, and bill you something in the ballpark of $27 to $36 a month plus energy. Off-peak hours are cheaper. They own the box. You do not take it with you.
For a lot of people with a 200-amp panel, a garage wall two feet from the car, and no opinion about brands, that is a sane deal. We say that on the phone. We would rather lose a simple garage job to FPL than pretend their program does not exist.
When FPL is the better call
- You are fine with their 40-amp charger and their schedule
- The panel is in the garage and has space
- You do not want to own or maintain the unit
- You are not putting it outdoors, on a pedestal, or under pavers
When you want us instead
- Tesla Wall Connector, or a specific Wallbox / ChargePoint / Emporia
- 48-amp circuit, hardwired, outdoor-rated
- The path crosses a driveway, sidewalk, or paver court (we bore it)
- The panel is full, 100-amp, or in a condo electrical room
- You want to own the hardware when you sell the house
FPL’s box is a 40-amp, 9.6 kW unit on their default off-peak schedule. A lot of Tesla owners want a Wall Connector on a 48-amp or 60-amp circuit. That is a different spec. Their program is also not a directional drill through coral rock in Coral Gables.
Rebates, because people ask
Florida does not have a statewide EV charger tax credit. The federal 30C commercial credit expired June 30, 2026. Do not let anyone sell you a “rebate” that closed last year. FPL still runs EVolution Home for residences, and a make-ready credit for some commercial and multifamily Level 2 ports (on the order of $1,200 a port when you qualify). Duke has its own credits in their territory. TECO, JEA, and the munis are different again. We check the meter, not a national blog post.
If you are in FPL territory and the garage job is simple, call them first. If the site is not simple, send us a photo of the panel.
