Level 1 is a dedicated 120-volt circuit. It adds about three to five miles of range per hour. That is the right install for a plug-in hybrid, a second car, or a battery electric that sits two or three days. It is the wrong install for a Tesla you drive every morning.

What Level 1 actually is

A trickle charge. Useful when the math fits.

A Level 1 circuit is ordinary household voltage: 120 volts, typically 12 to 16 amps, about 1.4 to 1.9 kilowatts. Overnight that is roughly 30 to 50 miles of range, not a full battery on a long-range EV. Plug-in hybrids (Prius Prime, RAV4 Prime, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, and the like) often live here forever. A Model Y that commutes 60 miles a day does not.

A lot of “Level 1 installs” on the internet are someone plugging the travel charger into a garage outlet that already has a freezer and a GFCI that trips in August humidity. That is not an install. We run a dedicated circuit, land it on its own breaker, and put a proper receptacle where you actually park.
